I love Brachiosaurus...
Brachiosaurus was one of the largest and toughest dinosaurs in existence. A man's head would be level with the knees of this gigantic beast. He had an immense body, a very long neck, a small head and a long tail.
A big, strong heart pumped the blood that was carried up the neck, to the small brain of the Brachiosaurus. Some scientists believe he had several hearts to pump blood through such a massive body. The strong neck muscles along the spine served to hold the head up. Unlike most dinos, their front legs were longer than their hind legs.
Brachiosaurus could reach the tops of trees that were out of reach of other herbivores. Thanks to its long neck, it could tear off the tallest leaves, as giraffes do. It had strong jaws, with spoon-shaped teeth with sharp edges, capable of pulling out tender shoots and twigs.
Brachiosaurus' paws ended in short, stubby toes. Under the bones of his feet dele there was a kind of padding that cushioned the impact of his weight on his paws. These were kept taut under the body, which helped support their 30 or more tones. This is why elephants also keep their legs straight.
Brachiosaurus needed to eat huge portions of food so that its huge body would have enough energy to grow and move. An elephant eats about 150 kg of food a day. Brachiosaurus probably up to ten times as much: 1500 kg. It traveled in packs and roamed over large areas of land in search of young trees.
Due to Brachiosaurus' weight, there was a time when scientists thought it lived in rivers and lakes, where water would support its weight. They thought his paws would sink into the ground if he walked on solid ground. Since his nostrils were high on his skull, he could keep his head afloat to breathe. In the water, this dino would be safe from attacks by ferocious carnivores.
