it hasn't been the first time some of these achievements have been brought up, but i've been doing some rough math and some of the achievements in this game are actually insane. i've handily listed below each and explained why they need a nerf, adding my suggestion what number these should be knocked down to.
-"earn X attack points in site combat
draining a level 1 health gate that is not held by a clan takes roughly 5 minutes and earns 100 points. this achievement track ends at 1 million points. if i am correct, this achievement will take a player 833 hours to complete in full. this is 34 days of standing on a gate.
even in active servers, even with people that are down to help you complete this, that is an insane number. i'd expect this achievement to take 5+ years for even the most active users to complete, and i think for a game this old, having achievements take that long is just making a completionist goal impossible.
i think knocking this achievement down to half (a.k.a remove the 12th achievement) would be more reasonable. 416 hours is still way more than i'd ever make any achievement take time though, so, shrug.
-"defeat X gold-obsessed bandit"
i don't have exact numbers on how long this would take, but this track ends at 300k kills. i play on a very dead server, which means grinding gold on the claims is relatively easy as they are full most of the time i pop over.
that being said, i've made it all the way to the sheriff using the claim gold for 99% of the fame collecting. again, dead server so the amount of fame i need is more than likely significantly less than on active servers, but even then that has been i'd say 4 straight months of doing essentially nothing else when i log on.
i haven't even hit the 9500 killed-mark.
i suggest knocking this achievement down to 80k to mirror each "defeat 10k bandits" achievements. big number, and will absolutely take time and an insane amount of dedication, but something more reasonable, and potentially a "two birds with one stone" situation.
-all "kill cyber" achievements
a different solution because for one, i think the cyber achievements are actually some of the more reasonable ones in this game.
cybers in every way possible are blatantly designed to be group challenges. while some are soloable, the game punishes the player by having every cyber spawn with a big group of smaller enemies that will attack you as a group, including the big bad.
i don't think the amount in the achievements need nerfing, but the bosses do.
the bosses max hp and recovery should be scaled based on weekly user activity (i'd say this number should specify players level 45 and above) of that specific server.
now players who are attempting solo or with a small group have a more reasonable chance of defeating the boss, as the boss' hp (and recovery in those that apply) reflects the potential number of players that could even be around to defeat them. less hp means less time spent killing the boss, and less recovery means some bosses become doable with groups smaller than 5.
-all of the cyber lure achievements
these tracks are the ones that triggered this whole post and i am questioning did anyone do the math or were the numbers just randomly typed in.
1 cyber lure kit of any type costs you 500 crowns without coins. bit pricey, but not terrible.
1 cyber lure achievement track requires you to use a lure of that one type 5000 times. 500 times 5000 means 2.5 million crowns.
and that isn't even it. this track is repeated 2 more times, which brings our crown total to 7.5 million crowns.
i calculated, that if you were to win sheriff, that grants you 10k crowns each win, every single time from here on out, it would still take you 28 years to earn enough crowns to complete all of these achievements.
im not even this old. these achievements are not physically possible, even with money. because now if we start using gold coins, the largest amount being 399 bringing the crown sum to 125, this is still 1,875,000 crowns (625k per track). which if we want to assume you will win sheriff every single time again, would still be 7 years of nothing but winning sheriff.
now what would i change? nerf them down to 50 to complete the track. that is still 25k crowns for each track, but at least you'd get there in reasonable time without needing sheriff every single election.
-----------------------------
i can see that some of these achievements have been made insane to help with player engagement and to get the player to spend money, but i do not believe they have the intended effect.
i'd love to try and complete this game as f2p some day, but expecting me to come back for 28 years to do insane grinding and even expecting this game to be alive by then is just foolish.
this game should strive to make achievements doable in i'd say 2-3 years of active gameplay to actually get people to come back and grind for those achievements to complete the game. and im certain there are better ways to get players to spend on gold coins than achievements.
my personal goals have shifted to "just get every item in game and max it out" and that'll be it. trying to go for any of these achievements, now that i've done the math, just makes me realize they are not going to be possible, not if i want to live my life.
these achievements need nerfs. desperately. also nerf maujak bandits.
