I’ve been wondering for a while now: why doesn't Dino Storm come to Steam?

I remember when Dino Storm had a partnership with Facebook; that really boosted the game's growth thanks to the visibility it gained. Couldn't the developers apply that same idea to Steam today? It seems like Dino Storm has no interest in promotion and doesn't allocate resources to it—so why not bring the game to Steam and handle the marketing there? We need new players!

Dino Storm is not available on Steam because its developer, Splitscreen Games, chose a browser-based and standalone infrastructure that bypasses Valve's platform.
The primary reasons the game has skipped Steam include:
  • Independent Launcher and Streaming Infrastructure: The game was built to launch instantly with minimal download sizes, streaming game data in the background. Splitscreen Games handles all account creation and game distribution directly through the official Dino Storm Website.
  • Avoidance of Platform Fees: Releasing a game on Steam requires giving Valve a 30% cut of all microtransactions and in-game revenue. By hosting the MMORPG independently, the developers keep 100% of the profits from their premium item shop.
  • Developer Decisions: Players have requested a Steam release on the Dino Storm Forums for over a decade. However, the development team has consistently declined the request, preferring to focus resources elsewhere rather than rebuilding the game code to integrate with Steam's API, overlay, and wallet features.
  • Declining Development Focus: Community discussions indicate that the game now operates with a smaller player base and relies primarily on automated, repetitive seasonal events. With development slowed down, the team is highly unlikely to invest the capital and labor required to port a legacy browser-style MMO to Steam today
