As many people have already noticed, there are several cases in which players endorse the game for reasons that are either lack of content (I mean that the time lapse between each event is very long) or because obtaining items implies be looking for hours for an item type so that in the end a minimum amount of it is obtained.
Obviously there are times when not even being in areas where the enemies are 2 or 3 levels higher than us can get a good amount or at least an acceptable amount of these items to improve. One of these ways to avoid gambling by the player would be to improve a little the frequency with which the enemies drop the items and some other idea that may work would be to implement some type of weekly mini event where the rewards are pleasant for the players but that do not come to directly affect the PVP, could be some enhancers, skins or dd.
That is my suggestion about some things that you could implement in the game in the future.
