Is Dino Storm all about grinding all day?

I've been killing mobs for half a day and only got 8 gemstones
What is the drop rate anyway?
or do i need to put in some cash so I can "enjoy" this game?

sometimes the drop rate is fast and sometimes its slow but if you want to speed it up you can buy gold coins

It wasn't like that in the beginning but, yep, they made it a grind. No fun anymore. It's geared toward getting you to spend money to play without the grind.
