How is the Election system working now?

I have returned after a long brake,of around 1,maybe 2 years,and I saw that the election system has changed a bit...
My question is:"Am I going to get any reward if I hold a rank for more than one term?I mean,if I still am a Ranger after the first election is done,and the second also completed with me still in front of the list,I will get any reward?O should I get to the next position?"

Now you can no longer hold an office, you win it, hold until next election that is it.
